On Friday May 19th and Saturday May 20th, Capoeira Social Project will hosting their first full Vivencia in Baltimore. Vivencia, from the Portuguese word viver - to live - which encapsulates the idea of living and learning by experience...being in the moment. This vivencia will feature several dance and capoeria workshops for all levels. (while kids are welcome this fundraising event is geared toward adults and teens).
The plan
Our event will start with a short performance/demo at Montebello Elementary/Middle School's Cultural Night Event. This will be a quick 10minute showcase of capoeira and samba. Instructor Siriguejo has been teaching a small group of students over the past 2 months and this will be their first chance to show their growth. All are welcome to attend and participate in this event. Vam q vam!!
Following, just a quick hop away in the Hampden neighborhood our event will kickoff at 7pm with a capoeira workshop at St Luke's, home to the Motion Collective, on the world renowned The Ave of Hampden. This workshop will at least be an hour long, followed by a roda. We need to pace ourselves for Saturday but there are plenty of night activities in the area to keep you entertained.
Saturday we will open doors at noon but the activities won't start until 1pm. We will warm up with an energetic Samba workshop taught by Cafaina (NoVA). Following will be a capoeira regional workshop taught by Professora Paraiba (Central PA), a roda and then a short break to hydrate and refuel. To get us moving again Siriguejo will lead a Coco de Olinda dance workshop so we hope you are ready to clap your hands and stomp your feet. Our workshop schedule will end with a capoeira Angola workshop taught by Jasper Jordan (DC) followed by a traditional roda starting with capoeira angola, and slowly progressing to the faster paced capoeira regional style. Samba de roda of course will show up to close it all out. There will be plenty of time for everyone to play, sing, and dance. Come on out and have a great time with Capoeira Social Project and our visiting instructors.
