The Night of Remembrance is held annually on the first Friday in January to honor lives lost to gun violence during the previous year. It has been sponsored by The Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods and Moms Demand Action since 2019. The interfaith event often features prayer from multiple traditions, music, faith leaders, survivors, and/or public officials who can share a short prayer, poem, or word of encouragement for the new year. The event will honor the previous year’s homicide victims by reading their names and lighting a candle. The event will also honor lives lost to suicide in 2023 with a moment of silence. The event aims to show community support, spread awareness, and evoke action to improve community safety in the new year.
