By the late eighteenth century, enslaved and free Black Baltimoreans had established a strong community striving for independence.
Henry Harden, enslaved at Mount Clare, was already a leader in Baltimore’s African Methodist community when Margaret Tilghman Carroll freed him in 1815. On November 1, 2025 visit Mount Clare and learn from scholar Teresa Moyer about what freedom meant and looked like for Harden and his family.
Program begins at 11am and will conclude at 12pm with light refreshments served.
