81st Anniversary Hiroshima-Nagasaki Floating Candle Commemoration hosted by Interfaith Paths to Peace takes place Sat, Aug. 8 at 7pm at Thurman-Hutchins Park pond. Each year, communities around the world observe the anniversary of the atomic bombings with floating lantern ceremonies, a tradition rooted in East Asia symbolizing remembrance, hope, healing, and renewal. Starting at 7pm: spiritual reflections by diverse faith leaders, musical interludes, keynote remarks by local artist/author Jill Baker (daughter of atomic engineer Alfred S. Withrow) and a dusk floating lantern ceremony. Pre-program "Circles for Peace" drum circle at 4:30pm. People of all ages, faiths, backgrounds welcome!
