The Little Loomhouse is pleased to announce they will be hosting Small Expressions national touring fiber arts exhibition, featuring 33 contemporary works by artists from 20 different states and 2 countries. Exhibition dates are Sept 3 - Oct 19, 2024. The Opening Reception, free and open to the public, is Saturday Sept 7 from 2-4pm. Small Expressions is an annual juried exhibition showcasing contemporary small-scale works (not to exceed 15 inches in any direction) using fiber techniques in any media.Handweavers Guild of America, Inc.’s (HGA) Small Expressions exhibit features work that speaks to the intricacy of expression, intimacy of design, thoughtful communication, and visual excitement. The purpose of Small Expressions is to increase awareness for the fiber arts by educating and showing the general public an exhibit of works while providing exhibition opportunities and exposure for artists; and to increase the perceived value of this art form by showing the traditional techniques of handweaving can be applied to any type of media in a modern way. Works juried into Small Expressions must have been completed in the last two years and not previously published. Small Expressions will tour galleries in the United States from July 2024 through May 2025. “HGA’s Small Expressions 2024 is remarkably dimensional. Through the exhibit includes among others, masterful examples of wall-hung traditional weft faced tapestry ranging in subject matter from abstract to representational, basketry and dimensional forms in fiber clearly take center stage in this year’s showcase. Artists are combining processes like interlacing, wrapping, weaving, and stitching while exploring the tactile qualities of familiar fiber materials. All works are meticulously crafted and invite the viewer in for closer observation and discovery”, Pauline Verbeek, Professor and Chair of The Fiber Department at The Kansas City Art Institute and juror, Small Expressions 2024. The Little Loomhouse is 501(c)3 non-profit, community based, fiber arts education center and historic site, established by founder, Lou Tate, in 1939.
