LIFECYCLE OF A BLACKBERRY, an inspiring poignant one-woman show starring MORGAN M. YOUNGE presented by Looking for Lilith Theatre Company (LFL), kicks off this season’s tour at the Russell Theatre on November 7th and 8th. This moving enlightening show, based on the writings of Kentucky Poet Laureate CRYSTAL E. WILKINSON, lifts up the experiences of Affrilachian women and girls.

Louisville audiences at the March 2024 premiere weekend described the show as: multi-faceted, enlightening, heart-warming, empowering, moving, emotional, ingenious, eye-opening, inspiring and poignant.
Lifecycle of a Blackberry is a LFL devised one-woman show, starring Morgan M. Younge and directed by Ebony Jordan and Keith McGill, honoring the stories of Black Appalachian women and girls. This triumphant show uses as inspiration the books Blackberries, Blackberries; Birds of Opulence; and Perfect Black, written by Kentucky Poet Laureate Crystal E. Wilkinson, founding member of the Affrilachian Poet movement. By lifting up these voices, this play fights stereotypes and reflects some of the most under-heard stories of the Appalachian region. Head playwright and performer Morgan M. Younge (LFL company member and Berea College alum) worked to create this new play with a devising team including LFL members Tiera Bowman, Meg Caudill, Ebony Jordan, Jennifer Thalman Kepler, Karole Spangler, Shannon Woolley Allison (Devising Mentor) and guest deviser Jasemine Reed.

LIFECYCLE OF A BLACKBERRY was made possible with funding by the New England Foundation for the Arts' National Theater Project, with lead funding from the Mellon Foundation and additional support from the Doris Duke Foundation.
