Ever wonder what it’s like to fly? While we can’t give you wings, we can learn the science behind flight and about our feathered and not-so-feathered friends who love to fly! Bring a kite or make your own and celebrate all things aerial!
Junior Explorer is a free family-friendly event at The Parklands that is open to all ages, that focuses on a special nature topic each time. Drop in at any time during the event for themed activities and check below for a full list of scheduled happenings you won’t want to miss. Join the Parklands’ education team, community partners, and special vendors to explore our natural world with themed activities, games, hikes, crafts, and more!
Scheduled Activities:
10:15 am – 11:00 am: Film Canaster Rockets
Start your day off with the excitement of rocket science by using a chemical reaction! Build your rocket and see how far it can shoot up into the air with our Rangers!
11:00 am – 12:00 pm: Raptor Rehab Presentation
Raptor Rehabilitation of Kentucky rescues and releases sick and injured birds of prey. Their educators will be doing a presentation with live birds, like turkey vultures, owls, and hawks, and answering all of your bird questions!
12:15 pm – 1:00 pm: Kite-making workshop
Learn how to make a basic kite for the group kite flying session that follows. All materials will be provided!
1:00 pm: Group Kite Flying
Bring a kite or make your own and learn how to capture the wind so that your kite can take flight!
1:15 pm – 2:00 pm: Birding Hike
Borrow a pair of our binoculars and search for birds on a hike with our rangers to end the day!
This event is free and open to everyone, and no registration is required unless otherwise stated.
