The “Friends of Fairview” are preparing for our 15th year of “ Stories Behind the Stones” tours through the cemetery on September 19 & 20th at 5:00 P.M.
Tickets went on sale on August 1, and these may be ordered on our website. The tickets are a $10 donation. We use our proceeds to help stones that need repair.
You can find us on line at newalbanyfairview.org.
This is a walking tour of approximately 1 hour. These are not meant to be spooky or scary tours and we hope it will be both educational and entertaining.
There are some golf carts available for those who are not able to make the walk.
This year’s theme is “Fairview’s Men of the Cloth”. We will honor four men three of which are buried here in Fairview the other whose first wife and baby is buried here.
Here are the 4:
Rev Thomas G Beharrell who was a Methodist minister in the 1800’s. (He has ties to the forming of a college....which one?)
Rev Charles Hutchinson who was pastor at the 3rd Presbyterian Church from 1853 till July of 1900 when he resigned. You will have to come and hear about his special tie to a famous person.
Rev John J Hight (He is not buried here but his first wife and baby are.) He was a Civil War Chaplain.
Rev Clarence David Strother was pastor at Culbertson Ave Church for 40 years and continued to serve another 31 years.
We look forward to seeing you.
