This Barnes & Noble Book Signing/Meet the Author Event is a part of tour in which Gavata Smith acknowledges the U.S. Department of Health’s National Recovery Month, (www.recoverymonth.gov). Featured is the book Get Yourself Together First¬¬ which is a true story that is centered around the daughter of a recovering addict, how she felt growing up & how forgiveness came. Gaváta has made it her life’s mission to encourage understanding, compassion, reconciliation and reunification of families torn by the effects of addiction.
Gavata is the local Author who wrote Get Yourself Together First, an autobiography about the segment of her life centered around forgiving her mother, an addict of 24 years¬. She speaks about how the authentic forgiveness and healthy restoration came. The book encourages addicts to get themselves “together” before trying to restore relationships, all the while still encouraging broken families that they can forgive and move pass the past. Through raw and honest storytelling, Gaváta uncover the lie that broken people feel – isolation and shame, or that they are the only ones going through these things. This book serves as encouragement that positive beginnings are possible at any stage in life. If someone has suffered at the hands of an addict physically, mentally or emotionally, or if an addict is trying to figure out how to regain trust and receive forgiveness, this book is a must read. It is encouraged that professionals in the field of addiction recovery also consider reading, understanding and incorporating this view into their therapy and group sessions.
