Zedashe Ensemble from the Republic of Georgia in Concert Friday September 13
The 10-members of Zedashe Ensemble from the Republic of Georgia, currently on a month-long US tour, will perform in concert at the First Unitarian Church of Chicago in Hyde Park on Friday, September 13 at 8:00pm. Georgian singing, one of the world’s most ancient and arresting three-part harmony-singing traditions, features a dark, sonorous vocal quality and startling, unexpected and soul-stirring harmonies. Hailing from the eastern Georgian town of Sighnaghi, Zedashe is one of the few mixed gender performing ensembles in Georgia today and they have developed a highly distinctive sound. Their current tour repertoire includes ancient three-part harmony chants from the Orthodox Christian liturgy, as well as the full range of folk song genres including field-songs, love songs, historical ballads, war dance songs, and ritual circle dances. This is Zedashe’s fifth US tour and is sponsored by the Vermont-based world music umbrella organization, Village Harmony. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the incredible music of Georgia.
