After a three year pause in student debt payments, more than 1.5 million people in Illinois are facing payments again. The average Illinois borrower has more than $37,000 left to pay off on their education loans.
As those bills make a return to mailboxes and budgets everywhere, stress and uncertainty are mounting among people and families with debt. A recent WBEZ survey found that 21 percent of Illinois borrowers have regrets about taking on their loans.
We’re taking what we learned from borrowers and creating space to ease confusion. Join WBEZ for a panel conversation hosted by higher education reporter Lisa Philip and get your questions answered. Guests include Maureen Amos, executive director of financial aid at Northeastern Illinois University; and Lily Rocha, midwest regional director of Young Invincibles.
Tired of financial advice? Overwhelmed and just need to vent? We hear you too. Grievances are also on the agenda. We’ll discuss the emotional burden of debt and ways to cope with the weight of it all.
