World Refugee Day 2025: COMSA Calls Green Bay to Celebrate Strength, Honor Resilience, and Stand Tog

On Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, COMSA (Community Services Agency) invites the Green Bay community to join its World Refugee Day Celebration at Perkins Park (600 N Fisk St, Green Bay, WI 54303). This free, family-friendly event uplifts refugee voices, honors cultural traditions, and builds unity across differences. This year’s theme, “Refugee Resilience & Community,” echoes the global call by the United Nations to “Stand in Solidarity with Refugees.” With support from Green Bay Packers Give Back and BMO, COMSA’s celebration blends art, culture, food, music, sports, and connection into one powerful day of community. Why It Matters World Refugee Day, held annually on June 20, is a moment to affirm the rights, dignity, and dreams of refugees worldwide. As global displacement exceeds 100 million people, COMSA believes it’s more important than ever to move beyond commemoration—and into courageous community action. Refugees are not defined by what they’ve lost, but by what they continue to give. In Wisconsin, refugees contribute to key industries, open small businesses, revitalize neighborhoods, and bring renewed energy to local life. As Executive Director Said Hassan states, “Refugees are not a burden—they are a blessing.” Event Highlights The celebration will include: Live cultural performances from Somali, Afghan, Congolese, Ukrainian, and other communities Youth soccer and basketball games Cultural poster art exhibits telling personal stories of resilience A diverse mix of food trucks and local vendors Hands-on family activities and crafts Resource booths offering information on housing, healthcare, education, and employment A Community Corner for conversation, connection, and storytelling The event creates a rare, welcoming space where joy and justice meet, allowing both newcomers and longtime residents to connect through shared humanity. About COMSA COMSA is a nonprofit founded by former refugees, for refugees. Based in Green Bay, it serves over 100 individuals each month through case management and culturally responsive services. COMSA supports families long after initial resettlement—providing help with housing, employment, education, healthcare navigation, women’s empowerment, youth programming, and trauma-informed care. What makes COMSA unique is its deep cultural understanding.
