World Premiere of Reykjavik86

Dallas Theater Center (DTC) is proud to present the world premiere of Reykjavik86, written by Gabe McKinley and directed by Enloe/Rose Artistic Director Jaime Castañeda. The production will run September 11-27, 2026 at the Dee & Charles Wyly Theatre at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. Set during one of the most consequential meetings of the Cold War, Reykjavik86 brings Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev face-to-face at a moment when the threat of nuclear conflict looms over the world. As the two leaders test the limits of diplomacy, ideology and compromise, an extraordinary event unfolds that will reshape the relationship between the world's two superpowers and alter the course of history. "This is a play that needs to be produced right at this moment,” says Reykjavik86 director Jaime Castañeda. “Gabe is reaching into the past to sort through the mess of our present, and has written a very funny, moving play about a very serious subject." Reykjavik86 arrives as the world marks the 40th anniversary of the historic October 11–12, 1986 summit in Iceland. The extraordinary discussions at Reykjavik helped lay the groundwork for the landmark Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty Reagan and Gorbachev signed the following year. Castañeda will be joined by a creative team of Emmy-nominated Yvonne Bourdreaux (Scenic Design), Jessie Amoroso (Costume Design), Driscoll Otto (Lighting Design), Tony Award-winner Fitz Patton (Sound Design) and Stephen Ravet (Production Stage Manager). Reykjavik86 features DTC’s Diane and Hal Brierley Resident Acting Company members Blake Hackler, Bob Hess, Liz Mikel, Alex Organ, Molly Searcy, Tiffany Solano and Esteban Vilchez alongside Will Adams and Frankie J. Alvarez. Solano and Vilchez will also lead Stay Late, DTC’s post-show conversation with cast and crew that follows each performance.
