Women with Silver Wings: The WASPs and Fifinella
During World War II, more than 1,100 women broke barriers in aviation as members of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs), flying military aircraft across the United States so that male pilots were freed for overseas combat. Fifinella, the mischievous female gremlin created by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Disney artists, became the official mascot of the WASPs, symbolizing the spirit, courage, and camaraderie of the women embarking on hazardous missions.
