Women Air Force Service Pilots in World War II

On Tuesday, May 9 at 7 p.m. in the library's Mackay Room, historian Richard P. Feingold will discuss the female pilots of World War II (WASPs). These valiant women flew jets and sometimes new planes the men avoided. They ferried aircraft from the factory to airbases to free male pilots for combat. They endured discrimination and were paid less than men for the same job. The Women Air Force Service Pilots had no military standing and received no Veterans benefits. But they proved women could fly planes as well as men and in time receive their due recognition. This program is sponsored by The Friends of the Englewood Library.
