Wizardly Weekend is presented by Meijer and Summa Health, and generously sponsored by Acorn Alley, Central Portage County VCB, College Town Kent, Hometown Bank, Off the Wagon, Portage Community Bank, and The Thresholds Group. Dozens of businesses are offering magical menu items and merchandise, fun decorations and photo opportunities in the spirit of the event. On Fri., July 18, get ready for The Run That Shall Not Be Named 5 3/4 K and 1-mile fun run hosted by Kent Parks and Recreation. Dan Smith Community Park will be transformed into Half Giant Park from 5-7pm for kids to enjoy large-size games, music and activities outdoors; Swish & Flick Podcasters will host a “meet and greet” at Over Easy at the Depot at 5pm; Laziza will be transformed into The Great Hall for the entire weekend with special menus and fun activities for all ages; the Kent State Museum will offer $5 admission to the new Sparkle exhibit for anyone in costume, and free sparkle wands to the first 50 guests each day. Kent Free Library will present If I Had a Gryphon by Vikki VanSickle as a StoryWalkTM on the W. Main Street bridge as well. On Sat., July 19, Hometown Bank Plaza will feature a Raptor Meet and Greet, face painting, origami art, wand making with Kent Junior Mothers, potion making with the Kent Community TimeBank, and other family-friendly activities from 11am to 6pm. Also visit the Vendor Village on Erie St., and Acorn Alley's Whimsical Witches Vendor Market for a total of 70+ booths featuring hand-crafted, event-themed items like plush dolls, sweet treats, creatures, wands and more. Sorcerer’s Swing, a 9-hole miniature golf event, will take place from noon to 3pm, featuring wizardly-themed miniature golf holes at participating businesses along N.
