A new monthly series of free Nokomis Beach Workshops continues on Friday, January 5th, 2024, with a workshop on Winter Sportfishing by Captain Joe Cellamare, owner of Fish Tales Bait & Tackle. Capt. Cellamare is a seasoned fisherman, fishing guide, and expert on bait and fishing gear for finding and catching fish in Sarasota County. He has been in the charter fishing business for more than 20 years.
This one-hour workshop will be held at 9:00am under the Picnic Pavilion in North Jetty Park (1000 S. Casey Key, Nokomis, FL), rain or shine. Following a brief introduction, Capt. Joe will discuss the key fish species in our local waters during the winter, as well as the best types of rods, reels, lures, and bait to catch these fish.
Winter Sportfishing is the second in a 6-month series of free eco-environmental beach workshops. All workshops are scheduled for the first Friday morning of each month. Upcoming topics include Clouds and Weather on the Gulf, Seashells of the Gulf, Spring Sportfishing on the Gulf, and Sea Turtles and Gopher Tortoises.
This series is sponsored by Nokomis Beach Ambassadors, an educational program of the nonprofit Nokomis Institute.
All workshops are free and open to the general public. No pre-registration is necessary. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather. Parking is free and adjacent to the Picnic Pavilion.
