Wine Tasting & Ekphrastic Poetry at SFWA Gallery
Join us for the Hope Lives: Art for ALS Wine Tasting and Poetry event at the SFWA Gallery on Sunday, May 18th from 2:00 – 4:30 pm. The Gallery is usually closed on a Sunday, so visitors will have private access to the artwork while listening to inspired prose and sipping delicious Corner 103 wines or bubbly alt beverages by TÖST. Light fare will be served. This is a FREE event and open to all ages.
Be greeted with a glass of bubbly rose when you arrive. Experience the artwork in the main gallery and artist's salon, and select your seat for the tasting. Two more wines will be sampled along with an array of cheeses and dark chocolate. Then the poets will share their inspired prose. Ekphrastic poetry is descriptive writing influenced by fine art. In this case, the artwork from the Hope Lives: Art for ALS - Research Renderings exhibition. This show is an international collection of wax art influenced by three microscopic ALS research photographs.
Hope Lives: Art for ALS was launched by Melissa Stephens in 2021 as a way to honor her sister, Lynn Giovannelli, who bravely battled ALS for 3 1⁄2 years. ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that breaks down the communication between a person’s brain and muscles. It steals one’s ability to walk, talk, eat and breathe. A percentage from all Research Rendering sales will be donated to research at the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI).
Guest poets are: Dean Rader, Sarah Rosenthal, Rebekah Wolman, Kim Shuck and Angelica Rocierdo. All wines are from Sonoma’s Corner 103 Tasting Room. It’s here that founder, Lloyd Davis, has curated a world-class team of wine professionals. From winemaking to hospitality, they are united by their desire to make the best wines possible, and to create memories through unique, welcoming and thoughtful wine experiences.
