To empower those affected by misophonia, the Misophonia Association will bring its convention to Tulsa October 22–24, 2026. This 13th annual event will feature interactive sessions, focused group discussions, and traditional lectures led by both returning and new experts.
According to the Misophonia Research Fund, misophonia is a “disorder of decreased tolerance to specific sounds or stimuli associated with such sounds.” Common triggers include chewing, breathing, tapping, and clicking. The reaction of a person with misophonia is often compared to the brain's “fight-or-flight” response. The condition affects an estimated 5-20 percent of people worldwide.
Audiologist Marsha Johnson, founder of the Misophonia Association, said the annual convention is one of the most valuable resources available for individuals affected by misophonia. Sessions are designed for adults and youth with misophonia, as well as the family members and professionals who support them. Year after year, attendees describe the convention as life-changing. Above all, they share the profound relief they feel when surrounded by people who truly understand their experiences.
The convention, which is open to the public, begins October 22 with a casual evening gathering at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Tulsa I-44. The following two days, October 23-24, feature full days of learning and connection with nearly 20 speakers in the field. Established in 2013, the Misophonia Association’s mission is to empower the misophonia community with education, advocacy, research, and support, with the long-term goal of finding a cure. The association hosts regular virtual clinics and one annual in-person convention, rotating locations around the country to connect individuals, families, and professionals worldwide.
