(Errol Morris, 1988, USA, 102 minutes)
Errol Morris’ legendary work of true crime filmmaking, The Thin Blue Line couples Morris’ established filmmaking techniques (first person camera, colorful interviewees, letting people speak their mind in long takes) with his background as a private investigator, which he did for a time before trying his hand at filmmaking. Focusing on prisoner Randall Dale Adams, who was sentenced to death for the murder of a Dallas police officer despite the case against him not being very strong, Morris seeks to find out what really happened the night of the murder. The Thin Blue Line ushered in a fresh perspective on the case, and the year after the film was released Morris was awarded a MacArthur ‘Genius’ grant. With a great score from Philip Glass.
It is $8 for the general public; $7 for seniors, Webster alumni and students from other schools; $6 for Webster University staff and faculty; $0 for Webster students with proper ID
