(Jean Rouch, 1961, France/Ivory Coast, 93 minutes)
Made in an integrated school in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, French ethnographic filmmaker Jean Rouch casts student non-actors to improvise a story of how the arrival of a new white girl impacts the friendships and interracial relationships between the white colonial French and the Black classmates. In so doing, we witness how the characters’/actors’ opinions and attitudes change after having worked with one another.
In French with English subtitles.
It is $8 for the general public; $7 for seniors, Webster alumni and students from other schools; $6 for Webster University staff and faculty; $0 for Webster students with proper ID
