We Matter: Penning 4 Justice is a 2 part series born from the voices of youth by youth. In partnership with Philly's own Ursula Rucker, exploring the current challenges that plague us as young leaders, working to dismantle the barriers of injustice and what actions are necessary to support us...the present and future leaders of tomorrow.
Each penned voice will be collected and transformed into a performance piece that will debut as the 2nd part of this series entitled, We Matter: Voice 4 Justice, on Sunday, June 19, 2016, performed by Ursula Rucker and cellist, vocalist and lyricist, Monica "Spirit� McIntyre. All participants of the #Penning4Justice workshop will be invited along with their families for this ground breaking performance.
Ursula Rucker is a Temple University Alum who made her credited debut in 1994 at the noted Zanzibar Blue. Throughout her journey, Ursula has taken to stages across the globe with her authentic, provocative, vulnerable and thought provoking spoken word artistry. Her passion for social and racial justice paired with her abundant love has been a beacon of light throughout the city of Philadelphia. In 2013, Ursula was honored by the Mural Arts Program with Arizona artist, Jetsonorama and can be viewed at 1531 Ridge Avenue.
The #Penning4Justice w/ Ursula Rucker is a FREE workshop dedicated to youth ages 13 to 17 on Sunday, May 15, 2016 from noon - 2 pm at Mighty Writers located at 1501 Christian Street, Philadelphia PA.
