Melody is the great gift of Schubert’s music. In this, the purest art of musical creation, he was unequalled by anyone before or since. His songs were not just catchy tunes but perfect creations that might fill the listener with joy or break your heart. This one-hour presentation will open up three of his greatest songs, each a brief expressive masterpiece. With the help of performance clips and demonstration at the piano, we will learn to hear and understand more deeply the beauty in them. No prior knowledge of music is necessary.
Presented by David Stein
David Stein has studied music history and music theory at Columbia University, music therapy at New York University and piano performance at the New England Conservatory of Music, where he was awarded the Conservatory Prize in performance of modern music. He has been studying and playing classical music for over 50 years.
