Scenic and costume design are an integral part of any performing arts event. Sets establish where and when the action takes place. Costumes provide clues to the characters’ identities and how they think of themselves. Many visual artists have ventured into the world of scenic and costume design with exciting results. In this class, we’ll look at some of those designs in the theater, the opera, and the ballet. Featured artists include Picasso, Hockney, and Chagall.
