Volunteer with us! The Library of Virginia acquires, preserves and promotes access to unique collections of Virginia’s history and culture. Join us for a free volunteer session to help make historical documents more searchable and usable for researchers now and in the future.
With more research moving online, we seek to make documents as accessible as possible by engaging volunteers to transcribe them. Volunteers will transcribe handwritten pages by reading the text and typing it into digital format. This in-person session will include an introduction to the Library and a website demonstration to help volunteers get started on From the Page.
In conjunction with the free “Envisioning Revolution: Virginians in Action” exhibition opening celebration, we will use documents from the Library of Virginia's Legislative Petitions collection focused on Richmond-area Revolutionary-era experiences. Volunteers will work independently for the remaining time and are encouraged to ask questions. The event will conclude with a brief discussion.
Registration is required. For more information, contact Eric Johnson at [email protected].
