Twin Cities Bronze Handbell Choir on tour with Concert at Des Moines Art Center July 8
Twin Cities Bronze is a community handbell choir based out of the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. It is comprised of 13 professional ringers and are known for performing music by contemporary composers as well as their educational workshops. This year marks their 25th Anniversary and has included a special commission, Icefall, by Mitchell Eithun, plus a performance at a brewery and a summer tour.
The musical group has been invited to perform at Pinnacle, a national event for ringers, directors, church groups, professional ensembles and more. The 3-day event in Wichita, Kansas includes not only performance by ten ensembles but also classes and handbell businesses. Twin Cities Bronze will be performing on Friday, July 11 at the Century II Performing Arts & Convention Center.
Treat yourself to one of their concerts as part of their tour entitled agua nocturna: a journey of light, shadow, and sound. You’ll enjoy a variety of pieces that you may not hear otherwise, plus you’ll have a chance to ask members questions. Ringers play different bells for each piece and they perform without a director. All concerts are free.
The first concert is Tuesday, July 8 at 1:30 pm in Des Moines, IA at the Des Moines Art Center, 4700 Grand Avenue. The sound of handbells will soar in the acoustically rich I. M. Pei building. Registration is required at www.desmoinesartcenter.org. Another dynamic concert will be Wednesday, July 9 at 7 pm at Grace Lutheran Church, 2225 Washington St. in Lincoln, NE. Churches often have handbell choirs and we invite local ringers to attend. A Homecoming Concert will be held Sunday, July 13 at Mount Calvary Church, 3930 Rahn Road, in Eagan, MN.
