“Tucson Portrait Stories” – a first ever live art happening - illuminates the people, places and events that make our community extraordinary. The creation of local artist, Lauri Kaye, the series consists of 50 mixed media stories, layering hand drawing with photography and digital color and printing on metal. A little reminiscent of “Night at the Museum”, these masterpieces come to life with the portrait subjects on Sunday, March 12th from 1-4 pm at the Jewish Community Center. Taste salsa & chips with Chef Maria Mazon at her portrait. Learn about butterflies at the Tucson Botanical Gardens portrait or listen to a captivating classical guitar concert by Gabriel Ayala. Top that off with popcorn while you watch an animated movie depicting this event.
The cast of characters for this live event is a diverse collection of Tucsonans that we get to know a little better through their portrait stories. A few of these include Mayor Regina Romero, Chef Maria Mazon, Guitarist Gabriel Ayala and Poet Sharon Byrd. As you visit with each of the portraits such as Donny and the Mona Lisa, You Can’t Close Up God In A Stuffy Room, or Joe on 4th Avenue, you can’t help but gain a new appreciation for this extraordinary place we call The Old Pueblo.
