The program features the Tucson Desert Song Festival–commissioned world premiere of Bartleby, a new song cycle by celebrated American composer Gregory Spears inspired by Herman Melville's enigmatic short story. Praised for his lyrical and emotionally compelling music, Spears has earned international recognition for works including Fellow Travelers and The Righteous. With performances at the Metropolitan Opera and the world's leading orchestras and opera companies, Jennifer Johnson Cano brings exceptional artistry to this highly anticipated recital, joined by one of today's foremost collaborative pianists.
