Tri-Valley Cultural Jews 1st Day of Jewish Culture School & Parent Meeting

Our new year of Jewish Culture School starts Sunday, August 25th with a journey through Jewish history using art, and an opportunity for our own Jewish Artists to explore different styles of expression. Our first class of the year is always special. This year we're meeting at Aran's Art Studio in Castro Valley for a special art experience. Parents, make sure to stick around for our new year information session! This year, our program will begin with Biblical art, showing historical depictions of stories like Noah’s Ark, enjoy the bloodthirsty depictions of Ya’el and Judith, and discover the mosaic zodiacs and frescos of Roman times before moving on to ceremonial art of the European, Middle Eastern and Central Asian Middle Ages. After that, students will explore depictions of Jews in Medieval and Renaissance Art of Europe. The curriculum moves next to Jewish artists of modern times, like Sonia Delaunay, Marc Chagall, Ben Shahn and Diane Arbus, discussing the times and places where they lived and what life was like for Jews then and there. The School is open to children aged 5-14 and culminates in a Secular Brit Mitzvah ceremony. Classes are 2x per month in Pleasanton. Jewish Culture School welcomes students from dual-cultural (intermarried) households and those from non-traditional families. We welcome those of diverse Jewish and multicultural backgrounds and people of all gender identities, orientations and presentations.
