The Great 8 Tour Presents: Through the Fire: The Lives We Wear in a City on Edge

Come out, dressed to express for a unique cultural experience exploring resilience, identity, style and survival in Washington, DC.

Through the Fire: The Lives We Wear in a City on Edge features two men shaped by three decades serving in DC: an ex DC firefighter and a formerly incarcerated artist, writer and filmmaker. Their paths are different, but their purpose is shared: to offer back to the community tools to build and maintain during tough times. This event weaves together storytelling, art, and fashion to provide practical tools for navigating life in a city under pressure.

Join Us As We:

  • Discover Your Story in Style: Explore how what you wear reflects what you’ve survived in a unique "fashion-as-identity" segment.

  • Build Your Resilience: Learn a practical mindset framework from a retired firefighter, tools you can use to navigate pressure and burnout.

  • Walk Away with More than a Memory: You’ll leave with a renewed connection to your own story, a simple framework for resilience, and a reminder that we're in this together.

  • Art and Identity: An intimate art unveiling exploring how art reflects what we’ve survived.

  • A Welcoming Space: An open, expressive space to reflect, listen, and connect with others.

This is an opportunity to wear your story: what we wear holds meaning.

What to Wear:

Come in something that tells your story.
Something that says what you’ve been through,
what you’ve survived,
what gives you strength.

This is about dressing with memory, not buying something new.
Wear something that tells your story.

Maybe it’s a jacket you kept all these years.
A color that helped you feel alive again.
Something small that reminds you who you are.

The shirt from a turning point.
An outfit you wore to protest, to heal, to begin again.
Whatever makes you feel bold.
Whatever makes you feel seen.

You don’t have to explain it.
Just wear what matters.

Bring Someone With You:

Know someone who’s been carrying too much for too long and needs some tips and tools to thrive?
Bring them. A caregiver, a neighbor, a teen, a returning citizen, a first responder, a friend who’s been quiet lately.

This is a space to exhale, create, plan and heal together.

Artwork and books will be available for purchase. Supporting this work means investing in lived experience and cultural preservation in DC.
