Threshold Curated by Lauren Gidwitz February 7 through 28, 2014 Opening Reception: Friday, February 7, 6-8 pm Philippa Beardsley and Mark Blavat are master storytellers. They have an exceptional power of cultivating harmonies of color, texture, and space, both visual and physical. While complimentary, these languages are distinct from one another, establishing a dynamic dialogue between their separate and collaborative pieces.

Making their public debut at the Pierre S. du Pont Gallery, Blavat's found-object sculptures utilize collected physical pieces, which have been discarded and gifted by others. The configuration of these items, along with his use of borrowed and personal myth, create theatrical stages tempting physical interaction.

Each of Beardsley's delicately crafted paintings could comprise an entire novel in itself, while simultaneously serving as a snippet of a story akin to a film still. Seen in the context of the larger installation, each vignette gives the viewer clues to weave a narrative across the collection of paintings.

The enigmatic and vivid nature of both Beardsley and Blavat's work invite viewers into their conversation. They drop morsels of information like breadcrumbs, lining a path into realms thick with promises. Only those willing to brave their intoxicating material presence will reap the reward.
