The Unsung Heroine Behind the New Deal
The first women to serve in the US Cabinet, Frances returns to the Norfolk Senior Center on April 12. Come hear stories from her later career-- her trials, trip-ups, and triumphs in the FDR administration during the tumultuous years that encompassed the Depression, New Deal, World War 11, and early Communism paranoia. Discover the stories behind topics that include the list of demands she presented to FDR before accepting the Secretary of Labor appointment; Frances’ role in developing and pushing through New Deal programs; the impeachment attempt that left her career in tatters; professional and personal repercussions of World War 11; the anti-immigrant movement ,gender bias; bedeviling family troubles, and more.
You will understand the reasons Frances Perkins is referred to as one of the most influential women of the first half of the 20th century.
Although this is a sequel to Part 1, it is not necessary to have seen Part 1 to enjoy Part 2.
Janet Parnes of Historical Portrayals by Lady J will portray Miss Perkins.
