Brighton native pens “Around the World in Sixty Years”
“Around the World in Sixty Years” is a new book written by former Rochesterian and Brighton High graduate John S. Wolfe.
The book comprises profiles of 101 gentlemen born in 1964 (like the author) from 65 countries across the globe.
Each participant answered a short questionnaire on his country, life, work and family.
“It was an enlightening project,” Wolfe said. “The responses from individuals in countries formerly behind the ‘iron curtain’ were profound. As was the input of a gentleman in Vietnam.”
In summary, the book shows we all have more in common than in conflict, Wolfe said.
In addition to the author, three participants have ties to Rochester. Ron Cooper, who lives in Greece, and Ned Hodgman, in Rockville, Md., were part of the Brighton Class of 1982. Jay Phillips, with roots in Pittsford, now lives in Cookeville, Tenn.
Wolfe will be discussing “Around the World in Sixty Years” in two upcoming presentations.
The first will be from 5 to 7 pm Saturday, June 7, at the Barnes & Noble in Pittsford. The second will be at 5:30 pm Monday, June 9, at the Brighton Memorial Library on Elmwood Avenue.
He will also have a signing event at the Greece Barnes & Noble from noon to 3 pm Sunday, June 8.
Each participant answered 13 questions, including “What is the most important event to occur in your country in your lifetime?”; “What is the best decision you made?”; and “What advice do you have for the next generation?”
The book concludes with a “Now It’s Your Turn” blank questionnaire at the back to encourage families to use the book as a way to memorialize their parents’ experiences for grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
“Around the World in Sixty Years” is available at aroundtheworldbooks.org. The hard-cover book is $49.95. The eBook is $30.00.
