The Seven Last Words of Christ
The Alleluia Singers of Presbyterian Church of the Cross, along with professional guest soloists and chamber orchestra, will present “The Seven Last Words of Christ” on Good Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. French composer Théodore Dubois wrote this setting in 1867. The composition is a multi-movement work based on the final utterances of Christ on the cross: “Father, forgive them, they know not what they do,” “Verily, thou today shalt be with me in paradise,” “See, O woman, here behold thy Son beloved,” “God, my father, why has thou forsaken me,” “I am athirst,” “Father, into thy hands I commend my soul,” and “It is finished!”
