"The Pieces"--free circus in Brainerd Park
Aloft Circus Arts returns with a brand‐new show, The Pieces, as part of the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks. Featuring eight massive ladders transformed into daring circus apparatus, the all‐ages performance explores resilience and rebuilding with breathtaking acrobatics.
The performance revolves around eight massive ladders — objects at once familiar and strange, practical and poetic. Throughout the evening, the ladders are continuously arranged and reconfigured, transforming into precarious towers, shifting bridges, and skeletal frameworks. Acrobats climb, balance, and counterbalance across these unstable constructions, navigating an environment that is always changing, always on the edge of collapse.
As performers test the strength of these structures, audiences are invited to reflect on their own experiences with systems that hold us up — relationships, communities, governments — and how those systems can falter or be rebuilt. In the wake our current collective upheavals, The Pieces asks urgent questions: How do we keep moving forward while honoring what we’ve lost? Where are our rituals of grief? How do we rebuild together?
