The Pacific as Crossroads: 1780-1820

Between 1780 and 1820, the Pacific Ocean was a bustling center of trade and cultural exchange. With the Pacific Northwest and Spanish California on one side, Japan and China on the other and Hawaii in the middle, join us to learn how the Northwest wasn't just a distant corner of America, but a vibrant part of the crossroads of the world. Sean Munger has a Ph.D. in American environmental history from the University of Oregon and has lectured, published non-fiction and novels, and taught history for 18 years. He is known for his deep-dive historical presentations on YouTube. A former attorney, Dr. Munger now teaches history online and in person with students of all ages. About McMenamins History Pub These events are open to everyone interested in Pacific Northwest history, and beyond! Often co-sponsored by local or state historical and civic organizations, we bring you experts, scholars, first-person experiencers, historians, and documentaries expounding on topics from indigenous history to the birth of Tacoma, early explorers to hop growing, and on and on! It's like being back in the classroom - except this time you get to settle into comfortable seats and enjoy a drink or two with dinner while you listen and learn. This event is eligible for a McMenamins History Passport Stamp.
