The Oriana Singers, accompanied by a band of period instruments, bring to life this exuberant and expressive repertoire in two performances: at historic First United Church of Oak Park and in the sonic splendor of St Josaphat Church in Chicago.
Claudio Monteverdi is best known for his impressive Vespers of 1610, but for decades more, as maestro di capella at St. Mark’s in Venice, he continued writing glorious music for the Vespers service. In 1641 he finally published a collection of that music, and from this The Oriana Singers assemble an “other” Vespers every bit as moving and impressive as his earlier effort. In addition we include Vespers music by his contemporaries Juan de Padilla and Giovanni Rovetta, plus instrumental music for two violins.
The Oriana Singers are at the forefront of the Chicago choral scene and one of its premier small vocal ensembles. This program marks the beginning of their 45th concert season under the direction of founder and noted conductor William Chin.
Best for music lovers age 7 and up. Free parking in the lot and on the street.
