The Musical Magnetism of 18th-Century London
Union College Music Department's Early Music Ensemble presents The Musical Magnetism of 18th-Century London. London attracted many composers during the eighteenth century, one of the most famous of whom was the German Georg Frideric Händel. This concert features music by the English composer Charles Avison, who spent several years in the capital city during his twenties; the German-Austrian composer Christoph Willibald von Gluck, who got to know Händel there; the Flemish composer Jean-Baptiste Loeillet, who called himself John after moving to London; and the German composer Carl Friedrich Abel, a friend of one of Johann Sebastian Bach's sons.
