LAKEWOOD, CO— Flamboyán Theatre and The Three Leaches Theater are excited to announce their first co-production—a cult classic play “The Motherf*cker with the Hat”, by Stephen Adly Guirgis. The show will run from October 23-November 1, 2025, 7:30 p.m. at Flamboyán’s home venue, The Three Leaches Theater, 1560 Teller St in Lakewood. This provocative dramedy tells of Jackie and Veronica, who have been together since they were teens, during which they both became addicts, and Jackie, a small-time criminal. When Jackie sobers up and starts to get his life back together, he discovers a hat in his house that doesn't belong to him, beginning a mad search across New York to find the owner of the hat. The journey forces Jackie to face the truth about himself and Veronica, who is still abusing drugs, leading to a powerful conclusion.
The production includes poet Manny Minaya as Jackie, Mark Grabador as Cousin Julio, Jill Sedó as Veronica, JC Reyes as Ralph, and Melissa Leach as Victoria. The production team looks forward to presenting this powerful story with the energy, boldness, and cultural authenticity that is in alignment with the original conception of the story.
According to Wikipedia, “The Motherf*cker with the Hat” premiered at Broadway's Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on April 11, 2011, staring Chris Rock in his Broadway debut as Ralph D., Bobby Cannavale (Jackie), Annabella Sciorra (Victoria), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Veronica) and Yul Vázquez (Cousin Julio) and directed by Anna D. Shapiro. The production closed on July 17, 2011, with the first regional production of the play at Theaterworks in Hartford, Connecticut, premiering on October 14, 2011.
