The Love Jones Cohort: Single and Living Alone in the Black Middle Class

The UDC College of Arts and Sciences invites you to join us as we welcome Dr. Kris Marsh for a reading and discussion of her book, The Love Jones Cohort: Single and Living Alone in the Black Middle Class. Dr. Marsh is a distinguished professor at the University of Maryland with expertise in the Black middle class, demography, education and housing segregation. Her groundbreaking research explores avenues into and the consequences of being in the Black middle class. In The Love Jones Cohort, Dr. Marsh examines the mental and physical health, wealth, residential choices and dating practices of a growing segment of the Black middle class who are single and living alone. Dr. Marsh has made a significant impact on national conversations about race, class and inequality through her extensive scholarship as well as appearances on BET, Bloomberg, CNN, MSNBC and The Washington Post, among others. She is also the recipient of numerous accolades, including the Core Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award and the Jacquelyn Johnson Jackson Early Career Award from the Association of Black Sociologists. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from one of today’s most dynamic voices in sociology. A book signing will take place after the presentation. This event is free and open to the public.
