It’s harvest time at the Knauss Homestead!
Join The Knauss Homestead Preservation Society on Saturday, October 24, from noon to 6 p.m. for the 4th Annual Harvest Festival, a free fall celebration at one of Lehigh County’s oldest surviving homes.
Since 1777, the Knauss Homestead has sat quietly in its own little world, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of modern-day Emmaus. For one afternoon, we’re throwing open the doors and inviting the whole Lehigh Valley home for food, music, shopping and history.
HISTORY ALL DAY
Take a guided tour of the Revolutionary-era homestead, offered throughout the afternoon. Local artists, crafters and historians will be on the grounds sharing their work and stories.
HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGE RIDES
Saucon Valley Carriage will offer rides around the grounds and gardens. An all-day pass is just $10, and every dollar goes directly to the Homestead’s preservation fund.
$250 PUMPKIN PAINTING CONTEST
We supply the pumpkins and the paint; you bring the creativity! Guests of all ages can compete for a $250 cash prize, sponsored by Cerminaro Masonry Group of Quakertown. Painting runs noon to 5 p.m., and all entries are due by 3 p.m. for judging.
LIVE MUSIC
Allentown singer-songwriter Seth Witcher, a contestant on Season 24 of ABC’s “American Idol,” headlines the afternoon. He’ll be followed by Matt Schmoyer of the Powder Valley Bang for an acoustic set.
SHOP LOCAL
More than 45 pop-up shops from Lehigh Valley businesses, artisans and makers will line the property. Find handmade jewelry, pottery, soaps, crochet, hex signs, vintage finds and more from vendors including Sage and Slip, Soaps on Linden, Robert Maletsky Hex Signs, Thistle and Griffin, Vintage Vibes by Valerie, Lily Bean Cottage and Kit and Kaboodle.
FOOD AND DRINK
Grab lunch from Kou Kitchen, Rype Food Truck or Local Mama Catering, then treat yourself to something sweet from Bananarama, Pie in a Cone or Sugar Cycle / The Bakery Bike. Sip local brews and spirits from Yergey Brewing, 3 Sisters Rum Company, Franklin Hill Vineyards and Coal Country Boilo. For something lighter, there’s Dirty Dawg Soda, Mara’s Strawberry Lemonade, and coffee from Jolts for Colts and Noor Blend.
TWILIGHT GHOST TOUR
As the sun sets, stay for a twilight ghost tour of the homestead with best-selling authors and paranormal investigators, The Gallo Family Ghost Hunters of YouTube fame!
