The French of New Bedford: The Early Years, Book Launch Meet the Author ~ Book-Signing

The author Alfred Saulniers will discuss the photo-filled book and sign copies. Light refreshments with a French flair will be available. The French of New Bedford tells the story of the city’s French heritage residents, from their early settlements in the 17th century to their expansion and growth throughout the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. This graphic history is filled with more than 350 rare historical photographs documenting people, places, and events. The French of New Bedford author Alfred Saulniers was born and raised as a French speaker in Acushnet, Massachusetts, graduating from Bishop Stang High School in Dartmouth. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He then worked for the University of Michigan, the University of Texas at Austin, and Harvard University. His long-term foreign residencies include Peru, Zaïre, Kenya, Morocco, and Pakistan. After his return to the New Bedford region in 2000, Saulniers served as the lead writer for Spinner Publication’s two volumes of The Picture History of New Bedford. The French of New Bedford, The Early Years, reflects deep pride in his roots. Spinner Publications, Inc. is a community-based, non-profit publishing house based in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
