An immersive theater experience, offering a rare, unfiltered look into the realities of America's immigration courts.
The Detention Lottery takes us past today's scary headlines and news clips, directly into the courtroom where, as one judge put it, "Life-and-death decisions are made in a traffic-court setting." See unprepared detainees conduct desperate meetings with attorneys, then face the judge for their one chance to shape their own futures.
The talkback, led by practicing immigration attorneys, sears home the reality of what the audience sees and what justice is being served in their name.
Written by Margaret O'Donnell, local playwright and retired immigration attorney, The Detention Lottery has since 2018 stunned audiences with its accuracy and impact. Audience members report afterward that they have taken up immigrant justice activism on the strength of the play's message.
Doors to Cathedral Hall open at 7:00pm.
