A British comedy set in 1923 England, “The Cottage” is a new play – on Broadway as recently as 2023 – and PGD is one of the first theatres to perform it here in metro Detroit.
“‘The Cottage’ is a love letter to the old comedies of the 1920s and 1930s – except everything is turned up! The pace, the humor, the slapstick, the sex. The audience is in for two hours of pure fun,” said Josh Beurer, Director of the Cottage.
The play features two brothers, Beau and Clarke, who can’t help but compete with each other while finding themselves in a sticky love triangle with their wives. The plot unfurls with ridiculous antics of the naive and gullible floozy Dierdre, the physical comedy of the enormously pregnant Marjorie, and the absurdly jilted sister-in-law Sylvia.
“The Cottage” is showing at the Players Guild of Dearborn, now through Sunday, Sept. 28 at 21730 Madison in Dearborn. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m. and Sundays are at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $24 and can be purchased at playersguildofdearborn.org or by calling 313-561-TKTS.
