Since September the U.S. has conducted 14 lethal airstrikes in the southern Caribbean on vessels allegedly carrying drug smugglers, many of them Venezuelan. Tensions are escalating as the Trump administration has deployed a considerable naval force to the region, including warships, a nuclear-powered submarine, and thousands of personnel. Currently a Visiting Senior Lecturer at Duke University, the Ambassador brings exceptionally broad experience in trade, energy, public affairs, and crisis management.
