The City Without Jews is a 1924 satirical expressionist film based on the novel of the same title by Hugo Bettauer. The novel and film predicted the rise of antisemitism in Europe. Set in the fictional Austrian city of Utopia, the story follows the political and personal consequences of an anti-Semitic law passed by the National Assembly forcing all Jews to leave the country.
Darkly comic in tone and stinging in its criticism of Nazism, the silent film will be accompanied with live original music composed and performed by world-renowned klezmer violinist Alicia Svigals and celebrated silent film pianist Donald Sosin.
