The 178th Annual Saint Andrew’s Day Gala, AKA “The Feast of the Haggis”, will happen on Saturday, December 2 beginning at 6 PM. This wonderfully elegant evening will be hosted in a new location, the Grand Banking Hall, inside the historic Wintrust Building, one of the most architecturally significant and iconic buildings in the Midwest. Throughout this spectacular night of fun and tradition, attendees who are Scottish by birth, by heritage or simply by inclination will enjoy the best of Scotland – bagpipes, highland dancing, tartans, toasts, awards, whisky tastings, cocktail reception, & formal banquet featuring, of course, haggis. In the spirit of Scottish poet Robert Burns’ “Auld Lang Syne,” the event will “lift a cup o’ kindness,” as all proceeds will benefit the organization’s principal charity, Caledonia Senior Living & Memory Care in North Riverside.
At the Feast, the Chicago Scots will present their highest honor, the Distinguished Citizen Award, to the Buik family. Having an extensively rich history that spans over three generations of leadership and service to the Chicago Scots, the evening will celebrate the accomplishments of George C. Buik Sr., Donald W. Buik and James W. Buik. The dedication, vision and leadership the Buik family have contributed to the Chicago Scots is inspirational. George first launched the Robert Burns Society of the Chicago Scots in the 1920s, Donald oversaw the addition of the McMillan Wing to Caledonia Senior Living & Memory Care’s Scottish Home in the 1960s, and James oversaw the building of the MacLean House for Memory Care in 2016. The Buiks have also owned and operated the Roscoe Company for four generations. Roscoe kindly offer title sponsorship of the largest bagpiping Championship in North America (46 pipe bands!) at the Annual Scottish Festival & Highland Games.
The Chicago Scots will also recognize outstanding volunteerism by presenting the Kinswoman Award to Bess Schulmeister and the Kinsman Award to Curtis Linder.
Tickets to the spectacular evening begin at $300 per person. Sponsorship packages are also available for those interested. For more information on sponsorships, please email Dawn Miller at [email protected]. Donations of any kind are also very welcome.
