The Buzz About Bees: Pollinators in Peril
An astonishing one of every three bites of food comes to us from insect pollinators like
bees, beetles and butterflies. Yet these lifegiving insects are threatened from a variety of
issues, from climate change to next-gen pesticides. In a colorful illustrated lecture, writer-
naturalist Mike Weilbacher introduces you to many of these amazing creatures up close,
shares their extraordinary life histories, and importantly, provides the buzz on the many
ways you can help preserve our imperiled pollinators.
The author of “Wild Philly: Explore the Amazing Nature In and Around Philadelphia,” Mike
travels the region offering lectures and walks on everything from climate change in
Philadelphia to microplastics to the healing power of nature. His programs have reached
4,000 people in just the last three years, and this is his fifth lecture for Lower Makefield’s
Environmental Advisory Council, having previously talked about microplastics, climate
change, and even the strange sex lives of many animals in nature. He’ll sell and sign copies
of “Wild Philly" after the lecture.
