Symphonies and Dances

The Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh (COP) continues its 10th Anniversary season with a rich and varied program on November 23 and 24. On Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Levy Hall of Rodef Shalom starting at 7:30 and Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Sixth Presbyterian Church starting at 3:00, COP gathers a compellingly diverse collection of works: the Symphony in G Major by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint George, Jean Sibelius’s Impromptu for Strings, the Danse Sacrée et Danse Profane by Claude Debussy, and Mozart’s Symphony No. 29 in A Major. Harpist Marissa Knaub Avon joins the orchestra as the special guest soloist for the Debussy. The program reflects two of COP’s core programming missions. The first is presenting under-performed masterpieces by familiar composers, and while many are familiar with the names of Debussy, Mozart, and Sibelius, these works have rarely – if ever – appeared on a Pittsburgh stage. The other compelling work here is the Bologne piece, in this case an exceptional work from a composer whose work deserves more attention. “These pieces form a beautiful program that spans eras and musical voices,” says Artistic Director Edward Leonard, “and it will be a treat to feature Marissa, who is such an amazing harpist” Tickets are $30 for adults if purchased in advance and $35 at the door, and all student tickets are $10. Tickets are available online at www.copgh.org.
