Super Troopers Figure Drawing at Play Arcade

On Thursday, August 13, The Siren Scene will bring artists together at Play Arcade in New Bedford for a costumed figure drawing experience inspired by the comedy and visual character of Super Troopers. Taking place from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, the event will feature a male model dressed in a state trooper-inspired costume and posing with playful accessories that transform the traditional figure drawing format into an evening of character, storytelling, and humor. This is a costumed artistic figure drawing event. The model will remain clothed throughout the session. The session will begin with shorter poses that allow artists to warm up through gesture and movement before progressing into longer poses of approximately 25 minutes. These sustained poses will give participants time to study form, costume, expression, and the relationship between the model and the surrounding props. Who Can Attend Artists, illustrators, students, animation professionals, designers, and curious beginners are all welcome. Previous figure drawing experience is helpful but is not required. Aviator sunglasses, an exaggerated mustache, traffic cones, a ticket book, and the unmistakable promise of a “liter of cola” will help establish the atmosphere. The resulting poses will offer artists more than an anatomical study. Each arrangement will function as a small narrative scene. Costumed figure drawing provides artists with an opportunity to study the human form while also considering character design, silhouette, fabric, expression, and visual storytelling. These skills are valuable across painting, illustration, animation, comics, concept art, and other creative disciplines. What to Expect and What to Bring Please bring your own drawing materials, including paper or a sketchbook, pencils, charcoal, pens, or another dry medium of your choice. Drawing boards are recommended when available. Artists are responsible for protecting their clothing and personal belongings. Please avoid materials that create excessive fumes, dust, or mess inside the venue. The event also reflects Kat Knutsen Studios' continuing effort to create figure drawing experiences that feel welcoming, memorable, and connected to the broader cultural imagination. By placing an artistic practice inside a lively public venue, the program invites both experienced artists and curious beginners to participate. Play Arcade offers an especially fitting environment for the event. Its combination of games, entertainment, and nostalgic references creates a setting where serious observational drawing can coexist with humor and play. Artists of all experience levels are invited to attend. Participants should bring their own sketchbooks, paper, drawing boards, and preferred dry drawing materials.
